Meet the Founders
Tamara & Cordero Allen
We’re Tamara and Cordero—together since 2009, married since 2019, and still choosing each other every single day.
Couples Going Against the Grain (CGATG) was born from a vision God gave me (Tamara) while we were planning our wedding. In the middle of picking colors and seating charts, I found myself with so many questions—questions I didn’t always feel comfortable asking friends or family. I longed for a space where I could talk honestly about love, conflict, growth, marriage, and everything in between… without judgement, without filters, and without feeling like I had to hold back.
I knew I couldn’t be the only one. There had to be other wives looking for support, other couples looking for community, other people craving real conversations, date-night connections, and a safe place to say, “Hey… being a spouse and a parent is beautiful, but whew—it’s a lot sometimes.”
When I shared the idea with my husband, he understood immediately. He felt the same way.
“I can’t share everything with my single friends—they just don’t get it.”
Maybe you’ve felt that too, even if you never said it out loud. And that’s okay. That’s exactly why we’re here.
CGATG exists to bring couples together—to spark real conversations, challenge the norms, build connection, and set a higher standard for love, commitment, and partnership… all while staying grounded in who we are as one.
We pray that God continues to guide our steps as we walk this vision out. And as for Cordero—he is my biggest supporter and truly the backbone of everything CGATG stands on.
Like every couple, we’ve had our ups (thank You, God) and our downs (thank You, God, for the lessons). We’re not perfect, we don’t have all the answers, and we’re not pretending to. But one thing we do know for sure: marriage takes work. Communication, grace, and the willingness to grow together.
CGATG wasn’t created because we figured everything out. It was created because we’re doing the work too—and we wanted a community where couples could laugh, learn, heal, grow, and hold each other up while boldly going against the grain.
This is our story.
Now we’re inviting you to be part of a movement where your story matters too..
